I purchased a vest on closeout. The sizing was WAY WAY OFF.

Emailed to see if I could return, despite no returns. NOPE. They asked if I checked their website size guide. Hahaha.

Of course I did. I should have checked Amazon reviews because those would have helped me realize the jacket was likely to be wack. I've shopped from them before - we have two vests and to be honest the fit on the womens vest I already own is meh but workable/wearable. I'd have to have Gorilla arms for the Jacket and also be shaped like a man.

Which I am not. I am a woman. The jacket is not cut for a woman's body. I ran a clothing company for many years and 100% know there is a major problem with this pattern, or the grading and they probably KNOW this and are dumping the product in their outlet as a result.

No returns, for any reason.

Basically they could have sent me anything, in any size and I'd have been screwed. Won't shop again.

Reason of review: Return, Exchange or Cancellation Policy.

Monetary Loss: $134.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

Scottevest Pros: Concept, Pockets, Materials.

Scottevest Cons: Sizing chart, Sizing, Return policy.

The reprehensible CEO called his customers "gullible" and {{Redacted}} idiots. Remember that, fplks!

Ah ScotteVest...

If the coat doesnโ€™t fit... gaslight the customer?

They are correct, the trench coat was a deep discount not a closeout - my error - but same thing in terms of returns and apparent defective product dumping by their company. Reviews like mine are all over the web and faultily made product on eBay and Craigslist (where they specifically tell customers to dump it)

I based general fit and quality off the vests we already own. I did not order based on the sizing of the vests. I never said I used the vest sizing chart, to make a final decision on the coat.

I did assume, as anyone would, that Iโ€™d probably be the same size in the coat as the vest. And then I checked the coat sizing and my own measurements before ordering

I wanted a coat as I was happy with the overall fit and quality of the vests, at that time.

Ironically one of our vests also started unstitching and lost a zipper pull on our trip last week but I wonโ€™t waste time following up - I know who they are. As for the trench sizing accuracy - It was correct, but only in the bust measurement. It was close but not correct in the waist (which actually sits nearer the hips) and very much off in the hips.

The not listed measurements are things like armhole depth and length. Length is where the sizing is surreal-y off. The sleeves are over 28 inches long on this coat.. For reference most womenโ€™s coats of a similar size are 23-25 inches max.

I actually wear tall/long torso sizes. But Iโ€™d have to be closer to 7ft or a gorilla for this garment to be graded appropriately. This information is not in any sizing chart. On top of this the stitching is puckered and lining bunched.

The belt is so long it trails to the ground. I sent photos of this along with photos of the measuring tape showing sizing was not as listed. Why did I have to spend an hour taking these photos? Because I was asked to โ€œprove itโ€ with measuring tape and photo evidence.

This was a first but I dutifully got a measuring tape and an assistant and laid out and photographed the coat with the tape. ScotteVest claimed not to get the photos and emails that I sent more than once. And then bizarrely said it was fine - the measurements were fine... because the bust was correct.

It was all a fruitless playacting game as they had no actual intention to help. Additinaly they vindictively said via email that because I had complained here the case was closed and they would not discuss any kind of return, even with a restocking fee. They knew It was detective product. There is no cost to the company if they are taking back a saleable item and charging me a restock fee which I would have been quite happy to pay to be rid of a defective coat and them.

But now I have a newfound bonus. Iโ€™m taking the coat with me when I go to conferences to speak about customer service, pr and marketing- something I regularly do! I can model the coat (anyone with eyeballs can clearly see how ridiculously โ€œoffโ€ it is) and read the passive aggressive to nasty emails I got. Itโ€™s kind of a gift in that regard.

Itโ€™s actually FUNNY. SNL Presidential skit funny. I can laugh about it. Iโ€™m not going to bother naming them, anyone can search and see.

They are quite adept at generating their own bad press, something no amount of google ad buying will fix. Iโ€™m only following up because Iโ€™m fortunate in that a $134 loss and run in with some jerks wonโ€™t break me.

But someone else might be truly hurt. And theyโ€™d be screwed.

We do appreciate this feedback and are truly sorry to hear about your experience with our Women's Trench Coat. When you purchased the coat, it was during one of our (twice-yearly) 40% off sales that was clearly marked All Sales Final and urged customers to consult with a customer service rep if they had any questions at all on sizing.

You mentioned in this post that you checked the sizing chart, but in your email to our CS department, you mentioned you wish you did more research and just based the purchase off of your and your husband's vests, which do indeed have a different fit/sizing guide.

Furthermore, the measurements you sent to our customer service department are in line with the specifications listed on our sizing chart for the size you ordered.

We are not knowingly "dumping" our goods via our Outlet. The Women's Trench Coat is not a closeout or outlet item.

Again, it was just included in a clearly-marked All Sales Final promotion due to the drastic discount we were offering it for.

Other than the rare promotions where the sale items are All Sales Final, we have an amazing return & exchange policy of 30-days, money back, no questions asked.

"Basically they could have sent me anything, in any size and I'd have been screwed."

We are very sorry you feel this way, but we sent you the exact size and garment you ordered. If you do decide to purchase from us again, we offer a complimentary one-on-one Personal Shopping Program (https://www.scottevest.com/about/personal-shopper.shtml) where a customer service rep will walk you through any garments that you're interested in and give you a full rundown on sizing breakdowns, measurements, etc.

Only the bust measurement was correct.

I wished I had done more research... because I would have seen all the complaints about sizing being way off, and would not have purchased anything from ScotteVest at final sale.

So easy to take words out of context.

Iโ€™m happy to post a video review of how silly this coat is and my photos sharing the way off measurements as I have already done on facebook

- hundreds of viewers agree! I intend to share the comedy on YouTube and my blog when I have a moment too.

I do have a life aside from this coat debacle. As this back and forth is getting tedious, and clearly will never be productive Iโ€™m going to leave It at this, for now.

You were determined not to take the defective product back at any cost. Oh well. Others have been warned and it is going to provide me with comedic failed CS material (get it - โ€œmaterialโ€ because this coat was so long on material) to cover me at talks for years to come! Cover me...

like this coat was originally purchased to do... itโ€™s getting repurposed! Cheers and best wishes to you, and better luck with your CS management in the future.

This is a recurrent theme for you guys. I suspect for me itโ€™s a one off because I have never had such an issue with a company ever before, and sure hope I never do ever again!

Your company is very shady, a CEO making the remarks he did to his very customer base, and essentially saying only an idiot would buy this crap, great marketing, good luck in the future
